Syrian legislator praises aspects of plan to end war

The peace talks involving 20 countries and organisations meeting in Vienna however remained deeply divided on the future of Assad, whose main regional ally has been Iran, closely followed by Russian Federation. So did Moscow and Washington.

Danura said the difference between the Russian and the Western approach toward Syria is that the West has so far announced the IS of being the terror group that needs to be hit and demanded a regime change in Syria, while the Russians have acknowledged that several rebel groups in Syria are similar to IS and they should be hit as well and said that only the Syrians have the right to determine their fate of their leadership without foreign interference. The United States of America has tried for years of time of time to complete the Assad regime, which has-been accused of using chemical weapons on civilians & different crimes of humanity, while Russian Federation has support Assad. With just two weeks elapsed since the Syria talks first convened, it could mark a significant advance, if successful.

In a joint statement, the countries involved in the talks laid out a plan including formal talks between the government and opposition by January 1.

While the diplomats agreed on a U.N.-administered cease fire enforcement mechanism they failed to reach consensus on which groups other than the Islamic State and al-Qaida affiliates would not be eligible for the truce. Kerry suggested radicals were drawn to the country in their fight against Assad, a view Lavrov disputed.

“The question of whether President Assad needs to go or whether he is part of the solution here, we need to look at again”, former Central Intelligence Agency Deputy Director Mike Morrell said on “Face The Nation” on Sunday morning, arguing for cooperating with the Syrian Army against the Islamic State. “We will redouble our efforts, working with other members of the coalition, to bring about a peaceful transition in Syria and to eliminate [IS] as a force that can create so much pain and suffering for people in Paris, in Ankara, and in other parts of the globe”, he said. Many personnel of the Syrian army left their ranks at the early stages of the revolution to join their people’s resistance movement.

Asked whether he planned to press ahead with a Commons vote on extending air strikes into Syria, Mr Cameron told the press conference: “There is a very strong case for saying Isil doesn’t stop at the Iraq/Syria border and therefore neither should we, but I recognise that I need to do more to build this argument, build this case, to take Parliament with me. That’s the perception of the people waging the war”.

“I can not agree, therefore, with the logic that Assad is the cause for everything”, Mr. Lavrov said.

“It doesn’t matter if you are for Assad or against him”, he said. “ISIS is your enemy”.

Now in its 5th year, the war has killed more than 250,000 people. With diplomats bogged down over the question of Assad, terrorist groups like Islamic State, also known as ISIS or ISIL, grew and become more powerful inside Syria.

US President Barack Obama is believed to have delivered a similar message to the Russian leader in an unscheduled 35-minute discussion on the fringe of the Antalya summit, which has been dominated by discussions over the world’s response to Friday’s attacks in Paris and the downing of a Russian airliner in Egypt.

“We are together in this: Europeans, Arabs, East and West, all the global community”, she declared.

The United Nations security council, which has been bitterly divided over Syria since the crisis began in March 2011, would also mandate a mission to monitor a ceasefire and political transition.
