Syrian rebel leader calls US-Russian agreement a ‘trap’

Mohammad al-Julani had publicly pledged allegiance with the al-Qaeda leader, Ayman al-Zawahiri. But the very suggestion that a deal crafted by Washington can serve to bring peace to Syria, a country that has seen around half a million deaths and a population decline of some 5 million due to a US-orchestrated war for regime change, is preposterous. Worldwide parties involved include Iran, Saudi Arabia and Turkey.

The ceasefire will not apply to the groups such as DAESH or Jabhat Fateh al-Sham.

In the hours before the ceasefire took effect, fighting raged on several key frontlines, including Aleppo and the southern province of Quneitra. These internal developments in the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda, coincided with the arrival of the resistance forces to the Castello road. -Russian proposals. The United States is on the hook to deliver the agreement of the Syrian opposition groups that depend on American aid, including Kurdish forces. The Syrian resistance was also able to blockade western regions of this city, in January 2016.

An activist from the Aleppo Media Center – an opposition-affiliated activist group – told CNN that he read Assad’s presence in a formerly opposition-held area as a sign to “that this could be our fate someday”. That rebranding exercise saw the group sever its ties with al-Qaida. “The shelling goes on night and day, there are targeted killings, besieged cities”, said Abu Abdullah, who lives in Aleppo’s rebel-held east. Jabhet Fatah al-Sham said the deal aimed to weaken the “effective” anti-Assad forces, and to “bury” the revolution.

Mosaab Khalaf, an activist in Aleppo said the situation could lead to intra-rebel fighting. They will announce they are … opposed to the U.S.

At the time of these field developments, two other events from outside of Syria played important roles in altering the direction and alliances of the war in this country.

“We have not received the agreement and don’t know its details”, said Suhair Atassi, a member of the political opposition.

These developments go completely against the interests and agendas of the USA in Syria. We carried them and started taking them to field hospitals. There is no agreement on any joint US-Russian operations. It was not immediately known if the targets where Fatah al-Sham or other factions. In fact, US’ support of groups that are considered to be terrorist groups even by USA itself, clearly shows the double standard policies of this country.

As a result, the USA strategy seems to rest nearly entirely on Russia’s good faith. Moscow has repeatedly asked USA to separate the groups that are considered moderate by Washington, from terrorist groups.

“That’s how the USA would view it. …”

“In line with the [Russia-US] agreements, the ceasefire regime on the whole territory of the Syrian Arab Republic comes into force on Monday at 19:00 pm Moscow time [16:00 GMT]”, Chief of the General Staff’s Main Operational Directorate Lt. Gen. Sergei Rudskoy said.

The important point is that Moscow’s negotiations with Washington on Aleppo come at a time that many observers believe that Russian Federation has a determining power in Aleppo.

He said “a long list” of difficulties had confronted US and Russian officials trying to hammer out the deal, but an agreement was reached, with the cease-fire set to begin in a few hours.

To secure Russia’s cooperation, the U.S. hopes the new military partnership is enough of a carrot. On the Russian Federation side they see him as the great hope. However, the United States could not abandon al-Qaeda and at the last moment, declared that they have not yet reached an agreement with Russian Federation on the issue of Syria. The United States wants Assad to step down from power, while Russian Federation and Iran have been supporting the Syrian leader.

It seems that in view of the costs that Russian Federation would incur if it decides to win the war unilaterally, Moscow is trying to shuttle between the military option and negotiations in order to increase its options in the Syria war theater.

Other opposition groups have been warned that they may also be hit by airstrikes if they do not leave areas where Nusra is present or remove the militant group itself – something not always possible for weaker groups to do without abandoning their home areas. Also, since they no longer have practical use, it is clear that these armed groups have reached their expiration date.
