Syrian refugees force us to face all our responsibilities as Americans
President Obama, in remarks at the G-20 summit in Turkey Monday morning, took a barely disguised shot at Cruz – whose father came to the USA from Cuba fleeing the repressive Castro regime – when he criticized Republicans who want to block Syrian refugees from coming to the U.S. “We can and must do both”, the president said of accepting refugees while fighting ISIL.

At a press conference in Turkey on Monday, President Obama called Cruz’s statements “shameful”. After all, in the 1930s and 40s it should have been permissible for American officials to view Jewish refugees from Nazi-occupied territory differently from those of, say, non-Jewish Germans who sought to flee Europe…. “Maybe make special exception for proven Christians”, Mr Murdoch tweeted on Monday evening in the U.S., as news broke that up to 30 USA states were opposing the settlement of Syrian refugees.
Second, the Islamic State, as its name suggests, is an Islamic terrorist movement. The actual number? Fourteen she said – the equivalent of barely two families. “It’s been a noble tradition in our country for many years”. He notes that “governors do not decide whether refugees come to their states”.
One of the more dishonest aspects of Cruz’s comments on Fox was his characterization of who the Syrian refugees are. (He then talked at greater length about “brain stems.”) Trump, in the past, has claimed that Syrian Muslim refugees can get into America “easily” (they cannot), while “if you’re from Syria and you’re Christian you cannot come into this country” (again, not the case).
Bush spokesman Tim Miller said Tuesday that Bush believes the refugee policy should favor women and children as well as persecuted Christian minorities, but no one should be allowed in when there is not enough information about them. This is a threat against Western civilization, and we need to lead. You explain that to me. Nor is it surprising that Americans doubt their government’s competence in screening refugees, given the fact the Boston bombers were also refugees – not to mention our government’s apparent incompetence at setting an effective strategy for dealing with Syria in the first place. The House Judiciary Committee chairman, Republican Bob Goodlatte of Virginia, said the Immigration and Border Security subcommittee of his panel would hold a hearing on the refugee program on Thursday. And it is very important – and I was glad to see that this was affirmed again and again by the G20 – that we do not close our hearts to these victims of such violence and somehow start equating the issue of refugees with the issue of terrorism.

MI Gov. Rick Snyder said he would allow Syrians already en route to MI to stay, but wants further resettlement paused until the Department of Homeland Security reviews its vetting process. When we do that, and relocate them in America, they’ll never go back into the Middle East. What will that accomplish? Think we’re an evil, frightful country and more often than not they celebrate attacks against us. They will be either executed or imprisoned either by Assad or by ISIS. “I’m not aware that you can just simply take anybody into this country indiscriminately, on the basis that we’re a nation of immigrants and then keep the American people completely safe”, he said.
