Syrian refugees resettled in resistant Texas, Indiana
A statement said 11,000 refugees were in Rukban, about eight kilometres (five miles) from the point where the Syrian, Iraqi and Jordanian borders meet.

“The governor holds Catholic Charities in the highest regard but respectfully disagrees with their decision to place a Syrian refugee family in IN at this time”, Pence said in a statement.
Governors in about 30 states since the attacks have said they don’t want to accept any more refugees, though none have fought as hard as Texas. “Congress meant to give states a substantial role in the refugee resettlement process”.
Cruz, considered the architect of the defund Obamacare effort in 2013 that led to the 16-day government shutdown, said Tuesday that lawmakers use a must-pass spending package to address the administration’s refugee plan. Ted Cruz of Texas teamed up Tuesday to push new curbs on Syrian refugees entering the United States, with Cruz unveiling a new bill that would let states “opt out” of accepting some refugees.
But Rippenkroeger said “due to safety and privacy concerns our organization can’t disclose resettlement details of Syrians or any refugees that have arrived in Houston”.
“The procedures that they have undertaken even recently, increasingly in recent days given the heightened political climate, is, I think, quite justified”, noted El-Badawi. Another nine refugees are set to arrive in Houston on Thursday. It would also allow the governor of a state to reject any refugee without “adequate assurance” that the refugee doesn’t present a security risk.
Abbott and Gov. Mike Pence of IN are among more than two dozen Republican governors who said they would refuse any new Syrian refugees following the deadly November 13 Paris attacks, which have been linked to the Islamic State group operating IN Syria. Tobin says the couple and their two small children arrived in Indianapolis Monday night and helping them is an “essential part” of the church’s identity. “We should not be bringing in refugees when our own Federal Bureau of Investigation tells us we can not ascertain whether or not they are ISIS terrorists”.
Federal groups are tasked with thoroughly checking immigrants and refugees who come to the U.S.to resettle. The state is still demanding a court order requiring the federal government and the IRC to give them information on all refugees before they are relocated to Texas. But regardless of the political debacle, the Indianapolis Archdiocese’s Refugee and Immigrant Services Program says it can provide for the family of four, who left Syria three years ago, thanks to private donations. The state has since withdrawn its request for an immediate ban on Syrian arrivals.
Despite these facts, the Administration continues to ignore calls from governors of both parties, as well as a bipartisan majority in the U.S. House, to pause and strengthen the program. A hearing is expected in the lawsuit next week.

In recent years, the United States has admitted between 60,000 and 70,000 refugees a year, and about 10 percent were resettled in Texas.
