Nashville International Airport spokeswoman Shannon Sumrall said passengers should check their flight status with their respective airline before heading to the airport.
Delta issued a statement saying it apologized to customers and said teams were working to fix the problem as quickly as possible.
Planes that were already in the air were, thankfully, unaffected, but many scheduled Delta flights were grounded worldwide.
Customers at Pearson Airport were frustrated about having to wait and took to social media to share pictures of people in long lines.
An early morning power outage in Atlanta knocked out Delta’s computers, resulting in the grounding of the company’s fleet.
So, if you’re on a Delta Airlines flight that has been grounded, our advice to you would be to get the hell out of the airport and extend your vacation by a day or two.
At 5:05 a.m. ET, Delta issued an alert, “advising travelers to check the status of their flights this morning while the issue is being addressed”.
Per the company’s flight schedules, arrival for all its five flights to Ghana from JFK, USA to KIA, Ghana is 7:00 GMT while departures from KIA, Ghana to JFK, USA, is scheduled at 8:30 GMT.
Confirmation of the troubles first came in an official account that responds to customers via Twitter. The airline declined to immediately comment.
In the latest update to their Twitter page, Delta said approximately 365 flights have been cancelled by noon while another 1,260 flights operated as per usual. Eastern Time had affected its computer systems and operations worldwide, leading to the flight delays.
Several flights at South Bend International Airport have been affected.
According to the airline, an Atlanta power outage triggered the widespread delays. It’s unclear how many are related to Delta’s problems and whether Delta’s groundings are reflected in the numbers.
