Yankees 5, Tigers 4: Yankees closer Aroldis Chapman pitched out of his own bases-loaded, no-out jam in the ninth inning, helped by a slick double play and NY held off Detroit. Winning the first 2 games of the 4-game home-road series in Seattle, the Mariners sought 3 straight wins against the Padres on Wednesday, but came up short. Sure, they were playing sloppy baseball, but they were still going to win. Even then, the Mariners still trailed 12-7.

The Mariners are 4-1 in their last 5 Thursday games and 6-1 in Mileys last 7 starts. Braun, who has been in and out of the Brewers’ lineup – missing 10 games with nagging back and neck issues – is hitting everyone this season but is especially unsafe at Citizens Bank Park.

Lee has eight home runs in 83 at-bats, while Lind has six in 137 at-bats. “That was insane. I’ll remember this one for a long time”. Lee is the first rookie in Mariners’ history to collect two pinch-hit home runs in his rookie season.

“I don’t think I’ve ever been a part of anything like that”, Seattle’s Kyle Seager said.

Now that their four-game, home-and-home, interleague series with the “natural rival” San Diego Padres is behind them, the Seattle Mariners get down to serious business in the American League West. At one point in the sixth inning, after taking that 12-2 lead, the Padres had a 99.9 percent chance to win the game. Colin Rea takes the hill, and he’s 3-2 with a 4.47 ERA and 36 strikeouts this season. And what followed for five batters gave San Diego something to chuckle about on an otherwise forgettable day.

Milwaukee has a 4.60 team ERA and a 4.88 ERA from its starters, so the Phillies don’t have any excuses if they can’t score some runs over these four games.

San Diego Padres’ Adam Rosales slaps hands with Wil Myers while scoring in the Padres’ seven-run fifth inning in a baseball game against the Seattle Mariners in a baseball game Thursday, June 2, 2016, in San Diego.

Robinson Cano then hit a three-run homer in the first inning that provided Paxton with an early cushion. In the four prior instances, the player involved played every position during the game.

Alexei Ramirez has hit in five straight games, batting. 353 (12-for-34) over his last nine games with three homers and nine RBI.

Norris and Kemp each had three hits for the Padres. The Mariners (30-22) batted around in an inning that didn’t end until Friedrich (2-1), who allowed nine hits and four runs (three earned) over five innings, got Mariners pitcher James Paxton looking at a called third strike.
