Tag Heuer Connected Smartwatch Announced, Costs $1500

As a way of connecting the new smartwatch with TAG Heuer’s mechanical offerings, owners of the TAG Heuer Connected can trade in their watch and receive a mechanical Tag Heuer Carrera for an additional $1,500 at the end of their two-year plan. There’s a lot of skilled craftsmanship that goes into making an analog watch, and whipping out those innards and replacing them with a digital interior immediately cheapens the watch for me, and makes it feel like a bit of a knock off.

“We are incredibly proud to be unveiling the first connected watch that brings more than 150 years of history firmly into the future”, IBTimes quoted Jean-Claude Biver, CEO of Tag Heuer and president of the LVMH Group’s watches division. Tag also developed a handful of apps for the watch, including a time, alarm, and stopwatch.

However, inside it is Android powered and is equipped with an Intel Atom processor. The body is built with grade 2 titanium giving the device a watch face diameter of 46 mm.

Krzanich added: “Intel makes fantastic experiences possible with smart, connected technology”. TAG Heuer’s smartwatch, the Carrera Connected, is expected to be officially launched in stores in NY at noon on Monday. It’s the result of a team effort from Tag Heuer, Intel, and Google.

The Tag Heuer Connected weighs in at 52 grams and measures 46mm wide and 12.8mm thick and is includes a directional wind and weather monitor and it is IP67 certified for dust and water resistance. The three companies unveiled the Connected Android Wear watch today at a grandiose event that also starred the Swiss ambassador to the United States, a large wheel of cheese, and glocken, because Switzerland. The rubber strap comes in six colours, black as standard, and the others sold separately.

Battery life, meanwhile, is stated to last ‘all day, ‘ so don’t expect too much.

The Connected watch is a true watch, both in terms of its appearance, with its watch faces and its minute tracks.
