Tag is targeting the crowd of fashion-conscious luxury collectors who may have pined for the gold Apple Watch, but found its aesthetic appeal lacking.

Intel is again helping a formidable rival of Apple.

Mentions of TAG Heuer’s entry into the Android Wear market have been tossed around for a really long time now, but – as we learned just a couple of weeks ago – the device’s launch is finally right around the corner. Apple’s decision to began selling watches for as much as $17,000 earlier this year apparently reassured the folks at Tag. It will be a tsunami, for me-in the price segment, between say $200 and up to eventually $2,000. He added that “to be totally honest, it looks like it was designed by a student in their first trimester”.

I agree with Biver’s assessment.

Whether the characteristics of the new ‘TAG Heuer Carrera Wearable 01′ will be up there with Apple’s or not, this is an interesting move which signals a more natural blend within the luxury and tech markets.

About TAG Heuer: the Swiss Avant-Garde watchmaker since 1860.

Specs of the digital watch may be obsolete someday but this TAG Heuer will still last. The people who snubbed the Apple Watch Edition might eventually settle for Tag Heuer’s cheaper alternative.

The product has been rumored to be manufactured in Switzerland and will go by the name of ‘TAG Heuer Carrera Wearable 01’. Apple has even introduced the Apple Watch Hermes, a luxury smartwatch created in collaboration with French luxury designer Hermes.

INTC is a Buy. However, it’s what’s inside that might make this watch stand out.

Sure, Biver conveniently places the point at which smartwatches encounter the obsolesence problem at ever so slightly more than the Tag Heuer Connected retails for. “In the price segment, between say $200 [£130] and up to eventually $2,000 [£1,310]”. Intel, the famous chip-maker will be helping with internal components and software of the watch. To put the cost into perspective, the most expensive Android Wear device now is the Huawei Watch that costs around $799 fully loaded. The chipset also enables low power consumption.
