Tage Thompson and USA Hockey Win Gold at World Junior Championship

Their one loss came against the United States when they dropped a 3-1 decision in Toronto.

The United States answered with two quick goals of its own, however, and then held on to force overtime. In the Bronze Medal game held earlier in the day, Russian Federation claimed victory with a 2-1 win in overtime.

Finding a way to wrap it up in words, there is no way I can do it justice. “But, we knew as a team that no matter how we played, we had the confidence to get back into the game”.

Canada again went undefeated at the 1997 tournament in Geneva to bring home its fifth consecutive gold medal.

Troy Terry scored the lone shootout goal in the fourth round of the shootout.

The hero of Wednesday’s shootout was the University of Denver’s Troy Terry, who scored three times against Russian Federation to send Team USA to the tournament final. Lauzon finished the Tournament with the Silver Medal, 2 goals, 1 assist trough 7 games.

On the power play, Nicolas Roy took the puck at the left circle and fired the shot past Parsons to give Canada a 3-2 lead.

Seven minutes in the U.S. was called for too many men on the ice, putting Canada up a man for two minutes.

Keiffer Bellows had a pair of goals for the Americans while Adam Fox assisted on three goals.

And it was there that USA finally claimed the victory.

Canada regained the lead early in the third period on the power play, with Bellows in the penalty box.

It took just over seven minutes to double the offensive output. In the final, Canada beat the United States 2-0. These two teams will duel it out in the gold medal game for the first time since 2010. Team USA rallied with goals from Kieffer Bellows and Colin White 2:23 apart to pull even. With the U.S.in the penalty box for shooting the puck over the glass, Barzal put a puck on a tee for Pierre-Luc Dubois, who somehow whiffed on the pass. Chances are even if he did score, the USA would have come back and tied things up again.

Sweden outshot Canada 16-12 in the first period, but Canada turned the tables, outshooting the Swedes 31-15 the rest of the way.

The IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship is an annual event that features some of the world’s best young hockey players compete for gold. It’s truly a special time to be following American hockey, and the World Junior gold is something the entire community can celebrate before we go back to hating one another once the season gets back in gear (so, uh, tomorrow). It was a lot of fun to watch and proud to be an American and hopefully they can find a way to get the job done. When the sudden death period ended in a stalemate, a five-round shootout decided the victor.

Parsons and Hart were outstanding again in the final session, but Terry’s goal was the difference.

Troy Terry scored the shootout victor as the US beat Canada 5-4 at Montreal’s Bell Centre on Thursday to capture the gold medal.

There was a lot of action in this game.

To say the game was “epic” would somehow be an understatement. In the initial five rounds, Terry and teammate Jeremy Bracco scored, and USA goalie Tyler Parsons made three saves. “Both teams at some points were on their heels and some were pressing and it just came to that last shot”.

There was no sitting back in overtime. The shootout was intense, and although it might not be the way you want to decide the biggest game of the tournament, both goalies performed amazingly and had it not been for Terry, we could very well still be shooting for a victor. If they can do that against the USA, they should be in good stead for gold at home. “I think we were maybe a little too confident going in (against the U.S the first time)”.
