Jung Ho Kang’s RBI single in the fourth cut the gap, but Milwaukee opened a 4-1 lead against reliever Jonathan Niese with two outs in the seventh when Scooter Gennett had a run-scoring bloop single and Perez’s third hit of the game drove in another run.

Pittsburgh broke up the shutout in the ninth on a fielder-choice from Andrew McCutchen.

The two teams play again tonight with the pre game show at 5:35 pm.

The Milwaukee Brewers look for another win after winning five of their last seven games. Before that, there was a run in the first in which Hernan Perez stole second and then came all the way around to score on some clown-car Pirates defense. Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said following a three-game sweep. Schugel is 2-2 with a 3.86 ERA in 34 appearances with Pittsburgh this season.

Facing Milwaukee for the second time this season, Taillon only allowed two runs and didn’t walk a batter while striking out six. Cervelli was unable to put much weight on the foot as he was helped to the dugout.NOTES: Brewers LF Ryan Braun was not in the starting lineup for the second straight game because of tightness in his right side….

The Brewers will take on the Pirates on Saturday night with first pitch set for 6:10pm.

The Pittsburgh Pirates recalled switching-hitting infielder Max Moroff from Triple-A Indianapolis.

Pirates: RHP Jameson Taillon (2-1, 3.60 ERA) will make his eighth career start and his second against Milwaukee.

I hesitate to call Francisco Liriano’s start a disaster, since he did strike out seven and get his fair share of swings and misses.

Pirates: Vogelsong, who has been out since May 24 with facial fractures, will come off the disabled list to start Thursday in Atlanta. “I thought he pitched like he deserved to, and I don’t think he was tiring or anything like that”. Counsell hopes to have Braun back Saturday. Just two of the eight runs scored against Nelson in a loss to Arizona on July 27 were earned.
