Take a chance on the Syrian refugees

The U.S. House of Representatives on Thursday voted to restrict Syrian refugees from resettling in the United States.

This is important. A refugee is not the same as a migrant or a person seeking political asylum.

She can comment on the bill passed by the House to introduce new screening standards for Syrian and Iraqi refugees seeking to enter the United States. Ben Carson compared Syrian refugees to “rabid dogs”. There are other security gaps that would be easier for would-be terrorists to exploit.

Why? Were Syrians among the attackers in Paris? . Media reports surfaced that the bomber may have entered Europe with the waves of Syrian refugees fleeing the war tearing apart their country.

In fact, most of the Paris attackers were European citizens born in France or Belgium. Less often, refugees can be referred to the U.S.by an American embassy or non-governmental organization, according to federal Citizenship and Immigration Services. The USA has the opportunity to do far more vetting before refugees arrive on their shores.

How does a refugee get into the U.S.?

Republican presidential candidates have nearly unanimously condemned allowing any Syrian refugees into the country because there is a small chance that a few might be ISIS terrorists.

Refugees also have their retinas scanned and have their fingerprints lifted.

The American Security Against Foreign Enemies, or SAFE Act of 2015, would enact “the most robust national security vetting process in history for any refugee population”, according to a news release from Perry’s staff. “That is that”, Boian said.

After resettling in Jersey City as a refugee, he now has a message for the country that gave him a second chance. Specifically, he pointed to a provision that says activities by local refugee resettlement agencies “should be conducted in close cooperation and advance consultation with State and local governments”. 11 jitters in the US and Europe.

Sounds pretty rigorous. How does the refugee process stack up to other ways of getting into the U.S.? The Huffington Post is reporting that passing through the process often takes at least 18 months…sometimes much longer.

“We do need to pay attention to whether the terrorists could infiltrate the refugee flow”. “I think given the situation recently in Paris, there’s an overabundance of caution that is unwarranted”.

So is that program getting strengthened? Around 20 million people use the program to visit the USA each year. “I have confidence that we can do it with greater scrutiny”, she said.

Sen. Jeff Flake (R., Ariz.) has signed on as a cosponsor.

Senate Democrats also expressed interest in tightening the so-called visa waiver program.

The bill requires the FBI to certify the background investigation of each refugee from Syria and Iraq. Democratic aides said Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney, a Democrat, had a forceful exchange with Johnson, saying that opposition to the bill would be a bad vote for Democrats that could cost them seats in next year’s elections. “So of all the things that we ought to be concerned about, that is not at the top of the list”, he said.
