Tales from the Borderlands, Episode 4: Escape Plan Bravo

That leaves only one more episode in this season of Tales from the Borderlands. While Rhys and Fiona are still at the forefront of the action, they aren’t really paired up with anyone interesting, which keeps their character development to a minimum.

Tales from the Borderlands Episode 4 releases on August 18th for PC and Mac OS X. It will release on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Android and iOS shortly after. Lots of action/comedy fun is on the horizon I suspect.

After a quick spell in the storytelling present, Escape Plan Bravo wastes little time in getting its players back to the heart of the adventure.

The second and third episodes have gotten just as much praise as the first, and now, the fourth episode comes out tomorrow.

Naturally, everything goes wrong in their efforts to get to the moon and infiltrate Hyperion, and usually in the series trademark offbeat, irreverent, wildly amusing style.

And it’s a huge strength of this episode to say that the early tones of despair or peril don’t ever overpower the swashbuckling atmosphere that we’ve come to expect from the series.

Escape Plan Bravo takes this to new heights, as it brilliantly lampoons some of film’s more cliche devices. Controlling Rhys during an imaginary shoot-out against an army of accountants is hilarious, and provides the most entertaining action scene the series has seen so far.

Sadly, these memorable scenes are padded by events that don’t really move the overall story forward, or teach us anything about the characters we’ve grown to love. That’s been a hallmark of the Borderlands franchise in general, but where it can get a bit overplayed in the main games, Telltale’s always managed to flirt with the line of referential humor without bursting through it and relying on it too much. And then there’s the ending, which cuts to the credits at a jarring moment, and cap off Episode 4 with a whimper.
