Tampa Bay Buccaneers Defeat Philadelphia Eagles at the Linc

Speaking of five touchdown passes, Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ quarterback Jameis Winston matched Newton as the Bucs shocked the Philadelphia Eagles in Pennsylvania, 45-17.

The difference between the Buccaneers’ opener and their 45-17 rout of Philadelphia, though, is that we now have 10 games from Winston to digest, making it easier to contextualize this performance. (As I say before going on to write a lot more.) The Eagles are just a bad and boring football team.

The Buccaneers (5-5) have won two straight games for the first time since 2013.

Winston had a career day in just the first half.

Philadelphia Eagles’ Malcolm Jenkins (27) breaks up a pass intended for Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Vincent Jackson (83) during the first half of an NFL football game, Sunday, November 22, 2015, in Philadelphia. The game wasn’t that close.

The Eagles as recently as three seasons ago ran the same system, in which the defensive ends in a 4-3 front line up way to the outside of the tackles or tight ends on passing downs and the defensive tackles line up between the guards and tackles, before firing defensive line coach Jim Washburn midway through. Sturgis converted both of his extra-point tries and kicked a 43-yard field goal the one time he was sent out to pick up three points. None of it worked. He completed 19-of-29 attempts, took just one sack, and finished the day with a 131.6 rating. The Eagles get their next chance to write the ship on Thanksgiving day against the Lions. But for a few reason they got killed by Jameis Winston and Doug Martin. On the third play of the game, William Gholston forced a fumble on Demarco Murray and it was picked up by Jacquies Smith, who then also fumbled the ball and the Eagles recovered.

If you thought the heat on Chip Kelly was hot last week following a loss to the Miami Dolphins, watch out.

This defeat was so bad the maintenance people got an early start on cleaning the Linc. The 50-50 drawing topped out around a ridiculously low $116,000. There was a major temptation to TEXT 78247 for stadium assistance.

The offensive line had its moments, too.

“Yes, of course it’s disappointing, but to be honest, I’m disappointed in myself more than anything because all everyone kept saying is find out first”, he said. Per our Net Expected Points metric (NEP), the Eagles entered Week 11 as the fifth best defense in the league by Adjusted NEP per play. The Bucs accumulated 521 yards and 25 first downs.

Next up for the Bucs (5-5) is the Luck-less Colts (5-5), who have had much more success with Matt Hassleback under center.

It wasn’t all the fault of Sanchez, who threw two touchdowns and three interceptions in place of the injured Sam Bradford.

“I don’t think Chip Kelly is back next year”. Winston then tossed a 4-yard pass to Evans to tie it 7-7.

Martin had 177 yards in the first half, including runs of 84 and 58 yards.

The penalty before the 3rd-and-4 play, gave the Bucs a first down and they capped the drive with a touchdown to put them up 35-14. David made a huge statement with his two interceptions, while Kwon Alexander tied for the team lead with 10 tackles. This time, Winston fakes the pass and hands off to Sims, who picks up 6 yards on a run up the middle.
