To help fans to follow Van Niekerk as he competes in events around the world, T-Systems recently launched the Wayde’s World portal and social media channels.
Prior to the Rio Olympic Games, Wayde van Niekerk (24) was announced as an Audi Sport Ambassador and given an Audi RS3 Sportback as his official vehicle.
“I was very emotional, I was literally in tears before my race, it had a lot to do with the emotions that was around and largely the pain I felt in my hamstring and my back”, Van Niekerk said.
“I was really happy with a bronze medal by the time I went into the starting blocks but once I said chose to leave it all in God’s hands and those last 50 metres I wasn’t in control of that moment”.
“It does not make sense to you‚ I was just happy that I got the gold medal”.
“There was a moment when we were together in Jamaica when he said to me he believed I could break the world record in the 400m‚” Van Niekerk said. “That’s why after the race in Rio he came to me and said “I told you I told you”.
The race may have taken place nearly a month ago but those breathtaking images still sent chills down the spine‚ even to Van Niekerk himself.
In 1996 at the Atlanta Games‚ American legend Michael Johnson claimed gold in the 200m and 400m.
The sprinter said, “Something that I really feed off of is the young kids and the motivation I can give them. I want to be where he is today”.
Van Niekerk’s new world record time of 43.03 shattered Johnson’s previous mark of 43.18.
