Taran Killam to play Donald Trump on ‘SNL’

Election seasons are sort of SNL’s time to shine, anyway, but the addition of Trump to the mix has to have those writers on their knees thanking god for the gift that has been bestowed upon them. Saturday Night Live has, however, chosen a new comedian to play controversial GOP candidate Donald Trump on its upcoming 40th season: veteran cast member Taran Killam, according to Deadline.

He’s expected to be busy reprising his lip-biting Bill Clinton impression as Bubba’s wife, Hillary Clinton, makes her White House as a Democrat.

“It was confirmed today that Taran Killam is playing Donald Trump, which is unbelievable “.

Deadline reports that current cast members of the 41-year-old sketch show auditioned to play Trump. Although he has a collection of original characters, Killam is known for impersonating Brad Pitt, Piers Morgan, Matthew McConaughey, Michael Cera, and Andy Cohen.

Killam’s other television credits include stints on “How I Met Your Mother” and “The Awesomes“. “Saturday Night Live” is slated to premiere on October 3 with host and musical guest Miley Cyrus.
