Tarantino sued over Django Unchained
Plaintiffs Oscar Colvin Jr. and Torrrance J. Colvin assert they wrote Freedom and Tarantino borrowed from it to create the film, according to court documents acquired by The Wrap.

The lawsuit against Tarantino also lists The Weinstein Company and Columbia Pictures as defendants in the matter, both are the production and distribution companies for Django Unchained. Within the case of Django Unchained, Tarantino has already credited several different films as direct inspirations & sources, together with Sergio Corbucci’s Django.
Referring to the Freedom script, the suit said, “Before Django Freeman, there was an escaped slave named Jackson Freeman who desired to purchase his family’s freedom from a malevolent plantation owner”.

The lawsuit claimed the Colvins registered Freedom in 2004 with the Writers Guild Of America.
The file goes on to read: ‘There are a plethora of similarities between Freedom and Django Unchained. From Pulp Fiction to his latest offering, The Hateful Eight, he’s won awards and great praise for his works.

Quentin Tarantino now faces a law suit for allegedly stealing the script of his 2012 film Django Unchained from a script called Freedom. The suit does not specify an exact figure in terms of damages, but is looking for compensation “in an amount in excess of hundreds of millions of dollars to be proven at trial”.
