Target closing store in New Ulm, plus dozen others in US
In addition to the one Minnesota closure, Target stores in Texas, Florida, Arizona, California, Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, Iowa, Indiana and Kentucky will also close.

According to Target Spokesperson Kristy Welker, the decision was made after “careful consideration of the long-term financial performance of a particular location”.
Management confirmed to KBJR 6 Tuesday that the store is set to close January 30th, along with 11 other stores across the country.
Target has said that eligible employees will be offered transfers to other stores, with FOX 21 reporting that the 85 workers at the Superior Target will all have the option to transfer to Duluth.
Earlier this year, Target announced a $2 billion, two-year cost savings plan that included the elimination of several thousand jobs in the Minneapolis area, where it is headquartered.
Buessman said, “We’re still trying to get an appointment with someone in management, hopefully upper-management to at least give the sales pitch saying, what would you need from New Ulm to stay?”
Target operates about 1,800 stores nationwide.
“It was a shock, not just to me, but to the community”, he said.

And even if the location does close, city leaders aren’t anxious about the economic future of New Ulm. “We know that Target as a corporation is restructuring their business plan, but we were not expecting this news”.
