Target.com Crashes on Cyber Monday

We have started to see the “please hold tight.” screen about an hour ago.

Target’s website was downed Monday by a flood of shoppers seeking deep discounts on so-called “Cyber Monday”.

A small stoplight was posted to the retailer’s site with a message that read “So sorry, but high traffic’s causing delays”.

For the first time ever, Target was offering 15% off everything online for the 10 year anniversary of Cyber Monday. The retail giant attributed it to high traffic.

Similar incidents happened to Target’s dot com site in 2011, when after a series of web outages, the then-CEO Greg Steinhafel promised investors the website issues would be fixed. It’s not clear yet what that means for how Cyber Monday will shape up.

Fewer people are expected to shop online Monday compared with past year, according to figures from the National Retail Federation.
