LoRa is the name of the technology that is being used by the company for deploying a low powered wide area network that will be used in this communication system.

These trials will boost deployment of IoT applications in India.

Tata Communications, owned by Indian business conglomerate the Tata Group, proposed that a LPWAN wireless network, which is optimised for ultra-low power consumption, would allow devices an extended lifetime to last more than a decade without replacement.

LoRa technology is capable of supporting communications in deep water and up to 50 meters underground.

In a smart city context, the LPWAN network is suitable for IoT applications in metro stations, vehicle parks and other smart building applications. There will be 25 billion connected things globally in 2020 from 4.9 billion in 2015, according to IT market research agency Gartner. This signal also has a 15 Km range. LoRa is an emerging, low power, competitive technology which competes against 4G, WiFi, ZigBee and Bluetooth alternatives. Therefore, we are building a device, which will be made in India and would help improve women’s safety, ” Tri Pham, chief strategy officer at Tata Communications, told BusinessLine.

“We see a massive need for a new smart network to enable intelligent solutions for a variety of M2M applications…”

IoT (Internet of Things) is a technology that has got a lot of potentials and expanding and is being widely accepted, mostly by enterprises and government sectors who provide services and goods like electricity meters, industrial machinery, electrical grids, etc.
