The passage of GST Bill has been widely expected to be a harbinger of change for the real estate sector which is now plagued with a myriad of indirect tax issues both at the centre and state level.
The Constitution (122nd Amendment) Bill, 2014 on GST has already been passed by the Lok Sabha.

A whopping 4700 Crore is the loss estimated per year for the state government of Andhra Pradesh if GST (Goods & Service Tax) comes into force, said state finance minister Yanamala Ramakrishnnudu.
The government is hopeful that the required bills, connected with the implementation of GST, will be taken up for passage during the winter session of parliament.
The Finance Minister said the GST would serve the interest of the federal system in the best possible manner.
Instead of goods being taxed multiple times at different rates, under the new GST regime goods would be taxed at the point of consumption. “The thought which was started during Vajpayee government regime has become reality”, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar told the State Legislative Assembly while opposing the cut motion moved to the Demands for Grants for Commercial Tax Department.
These formalities apart, the parliament will have to pass relevant bills for a Central GST and an integrated GST, while the states will have to enact their own legislations for a State GST.
