Taylor Farms Celery Products Recalled After Link To Costco E. Coli Outbreak

The outbreak made 19 people sick in seven different states.

The FDA said Thursday Taylor Farms Pacific of Tracy, California, recalled a mix of celery and onion used in Costco chicken salad and other foods. The items being pulled include snacks, diced celery, celery and onion mix and various mixes and trays, including with chicken, turkey or tuna, sold in Safeway, Albertsons, Costco, Walmart and other stores.

Wilson also noted that the FDA must conduct one more test to confirm the outbreak strain is the same one found in the vegetable mix used in the chicken salad.

In the last few weeks, 19 people in seven states have gotten sick.

Five people have been hospitalized, with two having developed a type of kidney failure called hemolytic uremic syndrome, according to CDC. Anyone who develops gastrointestinal symptoms should see their health care provider.

“Any chicken salad from Costco should be regarded as contaminated product”.

The latest E. coli outbreak comes days after health officials linked burrito chain Chipolte Mexican Grill Inc.to more than 40 cases of E. coli O26 food poisoning in six states. The CDC said the illness reports began on October 6 and involved people from age 5 to 84.

Health officials urge anyone with the symptoms, especially people who have eaten Costco chicken salad, to go to their doctor.
