Taylor Farms of Calif. linked to Costco E. coli Outbreak
Taylor Farms Pacific Inc. of Tracy, California, has recalled a mix of diced celery and onion used in Costco chicken salad and other foods containing celery “out of an abundance of caution”, the Food and Drug Administration said in a statement Thursday. The salad has been linked to seven-state E. coli outbreak. The retailer has a single supplier of the vegetables it uses in its chicken salads sold throughout at all USA stores.

Earlier, the FDA confirmed to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment that the chicken salad has been pulled from store shelves in that state.
The Associated Press contributed to this article.
Marler noted that Taylor Farms also has an especially good track record when it comes to food safety and contamination. They really liked and ate the rotisserie chicken salad.
Five people have been hospitalized, with two having developed a type of kidney failure called hemolytic uremic syndrome, according to CDC.
State health officials, particularly those in Utah, discovered the outbreak and helped find links between the 19 illnesses in seven states, Tauxe said.
Tests performed on the chicken salad by the FDA and Montana health officials found a strain of bacteria known as E. coli O15. Please see the Timeline for Reporting Cases of E. coli Infection for more details. The condition can lead to serious kidney damage and even death. The sickness reports started on October 6 and involved individuals from age 5 to 84, the CDC said. Chipotle had confirmed to closing up to 43 restaurants in Washington and OR, and reopened after deep cleaning and added new ingredients.
