Taylor Heinicke Likely Out 2-3 Months, Situation Officially Weird

He could miss up to three months after he severed a tendon in his left foot while trying to help a friend get back into his apartment earlier this month. He will likely open the year on the reserve/NFI list.

Heinicke reported to training camp with his lower left leg in a cast while he moved around on a scooter. It was one of those double doors.

Reports out of Minnesota said he suffered the cut while he was trying to break into his locked house in Atlanta. “I thought it just needed a little nudge”, he told the Pioneer Press.

A couple of weeks back, Minnesota Vikings third-string quarterback Taylor Heinicke and a friend were returning home from a late movie when they realized they were locked out.

“Me and my buddy were getting it going a little, but when I put my foot to the door, my foot kind of slipped and it went through a window”.

Heinicke, whom the team signed as an undrafted free agent in 2015, made the Vikings’ roster as the third quarterback after an impressive preseason previous year.

It was later revealed that his injury was the result of a insane, freak accident. Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer implied that there’s not much concern that second-year Heinicke will lose a roster spot over this, no sure thing with a third-string QB.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go get some copies of my house keys made.

Heinicke was the only undrafted quarterback to make an National Football League team last season, and impressed coaches with a stellar preseason.

Heinicke had 279 yards passing and two touchdowns in the Vikings’ preseason finale against the Tennessee Titans previous year.
