Taylor Swift fires back at Kanye West in Grammys acceptance speech

Taylor Swift is dedicating her album of the year Grammy to women who feel they are picked on or discouraged by others. All died within the past year.

Alabama Shakes also won three awards, though Lamar was the night’s big victor with five. But he was shut out of Grammy’s Big Four. There’s a synergy between Bowie and Gaga that became evident last night: Bowie was very much a chameleon for change sake, as is Gaga. Along with his wins, Lamar also had a show-stopping moment when he took the stage. The ceremony was held at the Staples Center in the city of Los Angeles, California (USA). Lady Gaga did well by David Bowie, even though he only won one Grammy (for a video) in his lifetime.

The show began with an energetic performance by Swift, 26, on her “Out of the Woods” number. He also could be the first rapper to win album of the year since Outkast in 2004.

But it was Taylor’s acceptance speech that has folks talking today.

She added: ‘But if you just focus on the work and you don’t let those people sidetrack you, someday, when you get where you are going’.

The pair are no strangers to disputes, after West famously interrupted Swift’s Best Female Video acceptance speech at the MTV VMAs in 2009 to claim that Beyoncé was more deserving of the award.

The tributes to the deceased stars took several forms.

Stevie Wonder and Pentatonix took to stage to honour the late Maurice White of Earth, Wind & Fire with a performance on “That’s the Way of the World”.

Eagles Don Henley, Joe Walsh, Timothy B. Schmit and Bernie Leadon saluted Glenn Frey with a performance of “Take It Easy”, joined by that song’s co-writer, Jackson Browne.

She cheered for Kendrick Lamar, too, before disappearing while a bunch of underwhelming performers marched by.

Alabama Shakes were triple winners.

The Weekend picked up two Grammys for best urban contemporary album and best R&B performance.

This year, Kendrick Lamar has a chance to make history: His Pharrell-produced “Alright” could be the first-ever hip-hop track to win song of the year in the Grammys’ 58-year history.

Meghan Trainor won best new artist at the 58th Annual Grammy Awards on Monday night and reacted with joyful tears.

“My heart is beating a mile a minute”, said frontwoman Brittany Howard. Having to speak to that many people knowing all our friends and family were at home was surreal.

Taylor said in very clear words that there will always be jealous and negative people who will try to trip you along the walk of fame.

Swift’s “Blank Space” is in the running for song of the year, along with Lamar, Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking out Loud”, Little Big Town’s “Girl Crush” and Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth’s “See You Again”.
