Taylor Swift grants last-minute reprieve to 70-year-old actors hoping to use

UPDATE 4/08/2015 4.30pm AEST: Magnanimous and benevolent queen of the universe Taylor Swift has humbly decreed that Belvoir Theatre Company has permission to use Shake It Off in their production of Seventeen, premiering tomorrow night.

The cast of Seventeen at Belvoir Street theatre in Sydney practised an energetic dance routine to Taylor’s hit song. Unfortunately, the theatre failed to secure the rights to use Taylor Swift’s hit song “Shake It Off”.

They’re not the lyrics to an incorrigible ear worm, but those were the two words from megastar Taylor Swift that set the toes tapping of some of Australia’s most well-respected veteran actors. “Partying. Dancing. They know the moves, and all the words”. She wrote a Twitter chain to Swift pleading for her permission to let the cast shake it.

The cool thing it, the play is about 17- year olds on the last day of school, with the cast being the elderly actors. Tay Tay could even use it for her next clip.

She tweeted that story to everyone from Scott Borchetta (who owns Taylor’s record label, Big Machine) to fan groups, to celebrities including Russell Crowe, Hugh Jackman and comedian Tim Minchin (Minchin tweeted at Swift’s bro Ed Sheeran). And this week, she came across a pretty good reason to waive those charges.

On Tuesday morning she wrote: “Permission granted, BelvoirSt“.

It’s like they had this music in their mind saying “it’s gonna be alright”.
