Taysom Hill named BYU’s starting QB

Taysom Hill will begin his final year at BYU as the Cougars’ starting quarterback. As it turns out, today is also Hill’s 26th birthday, and is also just a little over six months after Hill announced that he would be returning to the Cougars for another season. When Hill went down early in the fourth quarter of the season opener against Nebraska, Mangum tossed a game-winning Hail Mary. It was the third season-ending injury of Hill’s career. A week later, Mangum pulled off a last-minute miracle again.

Throughout his career at BYU, Hill has thrown for 4,606 yards, 31 touchdowns and 20 interceptions.

As Hill’s replacement, Mangum completed 60 percent of his passes for 3,377 yards, 23 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Hill won out over Tanner Mangum. Now that Hill is back for one previous year, he’ll be one of the more experienced and best dual-threat quarterbacks in the country; however, that inability to stay healthy makes him a risky option in season-long formats.

Mangum, who is a sophomore, completed 59.9 percent of his passes for 3,377 yards, 23 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in place of Hill a year ago.

Hill has a 15-5 record in games where he took the majority of the snaps, although he has had a tough time staying on the field.
