He’ll be over that. He wanted to make sure they were focused on what is ahead of them, not what happened in the rain.

Neither the Bears (9-2, 6-2 Big 12) nor Horned Frogs (10-2, 6-2) scored for more than 42 minutes of game time, setting the stage for Boykin’s overtime heroics.
Johnson took the snap and plunged forward. Combining with true freshman corner Julius Lewis, redshirt linebacker Ty Summers set a new record for tackles by a player under Patterson with his 23rd, which sealed the deal by tripping up Devin Chafin on 4th down.
“That’s a huge bowl”, said Baylor offensive tackle Spencer Drango.
“They played unbelievable. This is one of the best games they had all year”, Boykin said. “It could have gone either way at the end”.
In a three-way tie, Baylor would win the tie breaker. Oklahoma dominated the line of scrimmage, pounded them with the combo of Samaje Perine and Joe Mixon, and mixed in a barrage of big plays that were orchestrated by Baker Mayfield in winning their ninth Big 12 Championship under Bob Stoops.
After losing to the Horned Frogs, Baylor now is fourth in the Big 12.
Chafin’s 5-yard score gave Baylor a 14-7 lead on its next possession, but the Bears did not score the rest of the half. Baylor was clinging to a small hope, a hope that relied on beating TCU and Texas next week and an Oklahoma State win against Oklahoma on Saturday.
Boykin, his right foot heavily taped after missing the last game, threw for 148 yards and two touchdowns, along with his tying run in the first overtime.
“He’s the one guy that you have to really appreciate, ” Patterson said of Boykin. “We need to go play well against Baylor before we can ever get in that conversation”.
The field teemed with purple, eager to celebrate the Horned Frogs’ avenging the 61-58 loss from a year ago that caused them such heartache.
But a victor finally emerged when TCU stuffed Baylor on fourth-and-one in the second overtime and the Horned Frogs emerged with a 28-21 win.
WACO _ Baylor’s 28-21 loss to TCU on a dreary, rain-soaked night in Fort Worth last Friday cost the Bears a chance at making the four-team playoffs. Baylor last played in the Sugar Bowl at the end of the 1956 season and a return this season probably would entail a matchup against No. 18 Ole Miss (9-3).
“Since I’ve been here we have never made excuses”, Kindred said. “I was frozen”, a clearly exhausted Gary Patterson said. Playing without starting quarterback Seth Russell, who’s out for the year, and backup Jarrett Stidham, who left Saturday’s game with an injury, Baylor turned to third-stringer Chris Johnson, who proceeded to play like a superstar. He stripped the ball from Johnson with Baylor in the red zone in the fourth quarter. The TCU band was on the field during the invocation and about to perform the National Anthem when the field was cleared because of that warning.
