TCU QB Boykin charged with felony assault, suspended
According to multiple news reports, San Antonio police say Boykin was arrested shortly before 2 a.m. after allegedly hitting a patrol officer following a fight in a bar along the famous River Walk night club district. Boykin, a former West Mesquite High School standout, was charged with felony assault of a police officer after getting into a fight at a bar.

WFAA/Channel 8 in Dallas tweeted a copy of the police report that said the group with Boykin told police they would walk him back to the team hotel, but that he became aggressive when other officers arrived and was “charging” them, then was taken to the ground, “where the fight continued”.
TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin has been suspended from Saturday’s Alamo Bowl, according to TCU head coach Garry Patterson. Bond was set at $5,000 and Boykin was released after appearing before a magistrate on Thursday morning, according to Bexar County sheriff’s department records. The TCU coach, Gary Patterson, announced that he has suspended Boykins from the game.
“We are disappointed in their actions and apologize to the TCU Horned Frogs Nation”, the statement reads. Even after walking away, Boykin went back to the scene and charged officers, striking one in the face.
“We don’t know if he was swinging at the officer or somebody behind him”, McManus said.
Police said Boykin charged an officer, injuring at least one. After officers threatened to use a stun gun on Boykin, he was arrested.
McManus said the officer suffered a swollen face, bruises and abrasions. A TCU spokesperson confirmed Boykin was sent home following his arrest and suspension.
The 22-year-old Boykin was swiftly suspended for Saturday’s Alamo Bowl against No. 15 Oregon. Paramedics treated the officer for knee lacerations and investigators photographed his injuries.
“Clearly this was not an appropriate way to act”, McManus said of Boykin. “He was being heckled and he responded to it, unfortunately”. The San Antonio Police also stated that Boykin also faces charges of resisting arrest and public intoxication along with the felony assault.
A manager at Pat O’Brien’s said the restaurant is cooperating with investigators and has turned its surveillance footage over to the authorities. He will not play in Saturday’s bowl game.
“I’m hurting for him. Naturally, it’s disappointing.” Cumbie said he thinks the arrest was out of character for the Boykin he knows.
Boykin’s absence should mean more work for senior running back Aaron Green, who gained 1,171 yards and 10 touchdowns this season.
Senior Bram Kolhausen will likely be the Frogs starter with freshman Foster Sawyer backing him up.

Boykin, a second-team All-Big 12 quarterback, has struggled through a disappointing season after coming into the season as one of the favorites for the Heisman Trophy.
