TCU’s Boykin apologizes on Twitter after arrest
TCU Horned Frogs quarterback Trevone Boykin allegedly assaulted a police officer, and the team suspended him for its Alamo Bowl showdown against the Oregon Ducks on Saturday.

A police report said Boykin, 22, was fighting with employees at a bar near the city’s Riverwalk area shortly before 2 a.m. Thursday. Police say an altercation spilled into the street and ended when Boykin took a swing and made contact with a police officer on bike patrol.
San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said Thursday he didn’t know whether Boykin was swinging at the officer or someone behind him.
But they’ll have to do without Boykin and wide receive Preston Miller, who were suspended for a “violation of team rules”, coach Gary Patterson said in a statement. Boykin began the season as the top contender for the Heisman Trophy with the Horned Frogs ranked number three in preseason rankings, predicted by many to earn a berth in the College Football Playoff. He posted a $5,000 bond and was released from custody late Thursday morning.
The bicycle officer was treated at the scene for lacerations to his knees, which he suffered during the fight.
Schlabach added Boykin was charged with third-degree felony assault of a police officer.
Boykin allegedly hit the officer in the face and wouldn’t stop struggling with police until he was threatened with a taser. Several officers then took Boykin to the ground. The report also said Boykin resisted arrest until he was told they would use a stun gun on him. “We’re not here to be tough guys off the field, to try to start up fights and everything”.
Boykin was arrested early Thursday morning in San Antonio. Meacham and his fellow co-coordinator, Sonny Cumbie, said they’re leaning toward starting senior Bram Kohlhausen over redshirt freshman Foster Sawyer against OR but have yet to make a final decision.

Boykin passed for 3,575 yards and 31 touchdowns this season while completing 65 percent of his throws and added 612 yards and nine scores rushing.
