Patterson said he has suspended Boykin and receiver Preston Miller from playing in the Bowl game with OR because the players violated team rules.
Originally the game was projected to be a high-scoring affair between Oregon’s sixth-ranked offense and TCU’s No. 8 attack with Boykin and Ducks quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. leading the way.
OR takes on TCU Saturday 5:30 p.m.at the Alamodome.
Authorities charged the quarterback with assaulting a public servant in the third degree, a felony.
“We are disappointed in their actions and apologize to the TCU Horned Frogs Nation”, the statement reads. San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said the officer had facial abrasions but is otherwise fine. The incident spilled out to the street where he struck a bicycle police officer in the face.
A TCU spokesperson confirmed Boykin was sent home following his arrest and suspension. “I truly let down my family, teammates and the TCU and Fort Worth communities who have supported me so much”, Boykin wrote. Boykin snuck back out with a group of teammates and went to Pat O’Brien’s, which is just three blocks from TCU’s hotel.
The skirmish was set off by Boykin being heckled in the bar about the upcoming game, McManus said. “He was being heckled and he responded to it, unfortunately”.
Boykin was arrested shortly before 2 a.m. outside a bar near San Antonio’s famous downtown River Walk.
According to police, Boykin struck a bar employee during the incident inside the bar and then struck an officer after being escorted outside. People whom Boykin was with told police they would take him back to the hotel. “I don’t know. But in any event, the officer was struck in the face”.
A manager at Pat O’Brien’s told ESPN’s Max Olson that security footage already has been turned over to police.

Boykin’s absence should mean more work for senior running back Aaron Green, who gained 1,171 yards and 10 touchdowns this season. Meacham and his fellow co-coordinator, Sonny Cumbie, said they’re leaning toward starting senior Bram Kohlhausen over redshirt freshman Foster Sawyer against OR but have yet to make a final decision. He has accounted for 56 percent of TCU’s offense since 2012, and leaves with career school records for total yards (12,777), passing yards (10,728), passing touchdowns (86) and touchdowns responsible for (114).
