San Antonio Police Chief William McManus gave a press conference Wedensday morning and told reporter the he doesn’t believe that Boykin intentionally stuck the police officer. McManus says officers on bike patrol had arrived at the bar near the city’s famous River Walk shortly before 2 a.m. after noticing an altercation involving TCU’s most prolific passer in school history. The officer who was struck by Boykin was treated by medical personnel for facial lacerations and bruises.

Trevone Boykin on felony arrest: ‘Words can’t describe how sorry I am’
TCU played without Boykin for 2½ games earlier in the season after he sustained a sprained ankle against Kansas. Bram Kohlhausen figures to start in Boykin’s place versus the Ducks at the Alamodome to close out TCU’s season.

Team sources indicate that Boykin had been in the team hotel in time for the Horned Frogs’ midnight curfew, but had returned to the bar afterwards from his hotel room. “You’re always going to be disappointed when things like that happen to any of them”, Meacham said of Boykin’s involvement in the incident.

TCU football coach Gary Patterson has suspended quarterback Trevone Boykin for Saturday’s Alamo Bowl game after he was charged with felony assault of a police officer. It was then that Boykin complied with demands to stop resisting, McManus said.

The game would have been the last for Boykin, a senior who shattered school passing records once held by Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton. Instead of hitting the patrons, Boykin allegedly accidentally struck a bar employee.

After walking away, the suspect, whom police were told by bystanders was Boykin, charged officers.

Boykin finished 10th in Heisman Trophy balloting.

Senior Bram Kolhausen will likely be the Frogs starter with freshman Foster Sawyer backing him up. Reportedly, he didn’t calm down until police threatened to tase him.
