TCU ties biggest comeback in bowl history to beat OR in 3OT
“Just to be part of us turning this team around in the Big 12 means everything to me”.

Key injuries – including ones to their star quarterbacks – and poor play at different points prevented that from becoming a reality, and the Ducks and Horned Frogs are left to wonder what might have been as they get set to meet in the Alamo Bowl on Saturday night.
Adams’ head snapped violently back on the hit.
“I did the same thing at Ohio State”, Patterson said.
“This whole year, especially on the defensive side, it’s been a struggle in the second half to finish games”, OR defensive end DeForest Buckner said.
What might have been is the theme for the 2016 Alamo Bowl featuring the Oregon Ducks vs TCU Horned Frogs football game on the ESPN sports TV network and Watch ESPN3 live online streaming. OR simply had no answers for an undermanned TCU offense in the last two quarters and overtime sessions, and the collapse will lead some to wonder, perhaps even head coach Mark Helfrich, whether the tenure of long-time UO coordinator/assistant Don Pellum should come to an end.
OR and TCU are meeting for the third time and first since 1978.
We can only imagine TCU coach Gary Patterson gave his team a hell of a halftime speech to go along with his wardrobe change – more on that later – to get his team ready for what is tied for the largest comeback in bowl history (Texas Tech came down from 38-7 in the 2006 Insight Bowl).
Gary Patterson and the #11 TCU Horned Frogs went into half-time down 31-0 to the Oregon Ducks.
Jan 2, 2016; San Antonio, TX, USA; Oregon Ducks safety Charles Nelson (6) intercepts a TCU Horned Frogs pass over wide receiver Kolby Listenbee (7) in the 2016 Alamo Bowl at the Alamodome. Kohlhausen, playing in place of the suspended Trevone Boykin, was superb, bouncing back from a rough first half to throw for 354 yards and a pair of touchdowns in his first career start.
But Adams left after a helmet-to-helmet hit, to be replaced by Jeff Lockie, and OR also had to play without Hegarty at center.
TCU tied the score at 31 heading into overtime and then Kohlhausen threw a 7-yard touchdown pass to Emanuel Porter. – Oregon WR Darren Carrington caught seven passes for 107 yards and a score. GO GREEN: Senior running back Aaron Green leads TCU with 1,171 yards rushing and 10 touchdowns. Of Oregon’s six possessions in the third and fourth quarters, only one lasted longer than three plays or covered more than 10 yards. TCU would get another stop, in front of about 50,000 screaming TCU fans (and about 15,000 very sad OR fans), and a Jaden Oberkom field goal with 23 seconds left would eventually send the game to overtime. OR was able to do what they wanted in the First Quarter. Adams helped OR top 40 points four times during its 6-0 close, winning at then-No. TCU’s two-point conversion pass attempt failed, but Oregon’s final chance to tie and keep the game going ended with an incomplete pass on fourth down near the goal line. When he exited, OR led 28-0 and had gained 342 yards on 42 plays. Without Boykin, TCU’s high-powered offense isn’t almost as high-powered.

It wasn’t the ideal start that new offensive coordinator Matt Lubick’s tenure appeared in the early going.
