Team Canada crushes Team USA in World Cup tune-up
Canada dominated possession. Team USA’s only shot on record in the third was the empty net goal. Claude Giroux is part of the favorite Canada.

The Philadelphia Flyers forward, who had hip and abdominal surgery after the playoffs last spring, wasn’t on the ice for Canada’s skate.
Team Europe leads all clubs in the field with five players who participated in the last World Cup, held in 2004 as the final event before the lockout that canceled the 2004-05 season.
“Obviously, didn’t get the result we wanted (Friday)”, Tavares said.
This group feels a little more balanced to me. Its more that the USA has to be sharper, especially in the tournament showdown against Canada on September 20.
“You can’t do that. you can’t play aggressive, you can’t play straight ahead and you can’t think about just your team unless you get into that mindset”.
Notes: Canada C Sidney Crosby and D Jake Muzzin did not play Saturday night.
Coming off a 4-2 loss to Team USA Friday night in Columbus, the players picked to represent the country in the tournament returned to Canadian soil and made sure they didn’t get swept in this series by making the most of their opportunities while also limiting Team USA’s chances.
Team Canada will have Sunday off, practice in Ottawa Monday and then head to Pittsburgh to face Russia Wednesday at the Consol Energy Center. “There’s a lot on the line”. It was a good win for us.
Getting the victory over the Americans was a big step in the right direction.
With the World Cup being the ultimate pinnacle in worldwide ice hockey, both these teams won’t want to give each other an inch in what should be a hugely entertaining game. “We’re going to try to be very fair in these three games so they make these decisions for us”.
“The youth psyche helps us on a number of different levels”, he said. “Everyone knew what we had to do out there”.
But the United States has loaded up with two-way, heavy checking forwards, players who can score and skate but are also hard to play against. It has been that way since the fall of the Soviet Union (OG Team Europe) and I don’t see it changing…ever.
You’ve got your barbecue fired up, and you’ve called everyone you know to come over. He is the No. 1 goalie and it’s his job to lose.
“It’s the path I took to be able to be an National Hockey League player, and I really love that role”, he said.
At that time, Giroux’s status should be cleared up as well.
Back-to-back worries: Both Team USA and Team Canada are not impressed by the fact they had to open the pretournament with back-to-back games after the players were off all summer.
“It was important to get better and that’s what we’re trying to do each and every game”, Canada coach Mike Babcock said.
Neither team has the depth that the tournament’s powerhouse countries have.
Team North America’s narrative will be one of the most intriguing ones to watch as these players not only come from warring hockey nations, but also are inexperienced internationally.
The Colorado Avalanche star scored two goals in the win, and the second one was the penalty shot that you see above: Forehand, backhand, forehand, backhand, forehand, backhand, Jaroslav Halak in a yoga pose, shot, score.
As someone who has literally no invested interest in this tournament, I don’t really care who wins. “When we did, I just think we need to be closer there”.
