Blizzard’s Overwatch also recently introduced Competitive play which left Team Fortress 2 players asking when they will be getting a similar update too.

The “Meet Your Match” update also includes a new ranking system for casual play that goes up with each game, as well as a casual version of the competitive mode, which will be replacing the Quick Play option on the main menu.
Valve had also used the game as a platform to explore the outer limits of just what the shooter genre could offer, from establishing a robust in-game economy to introducing new game modes and weird new weapons.
Competitive Mode is a ranked game mode that doesn’t have random critical hits and features all nine classes in a 6-versus-6 match. You’ll need a Premium account to play it which you can find the details of here. Your rank will be determined by your match-to-match performance, so playing with lower-ranked friends won’t tank your score. The update also ushers in the long-awaited Competitive Mode, as well as the replacement of Quickplay with an unranked Casual Mode. However, players can still level up by simply playing the game. It’s unclear how leveling works beyond this information. There’s also four new taunts, including three community taunts for Pyro, Spy and Soldier, and an official taunt for the Scout.

For those who are looking to play the new game mode, they could also purchase a discounted $10 Competitive Access Pass now. In Pass Time, players must grab the Jack and throw it into the opposing team’s goal. It’s been in development since previous year, and was co-created by Bad Robot (JJ Abrams’ studio), Escalation Studios, and Valve. In those years, the game has seen a myriad of changes, but finally today, Team Fortress 2 has a matchmaking mode. But who knows? Perhaps it’ll inject some new life into the game.
