Team USA’s Hammer takes silver in women’s omnium
Trott now has four Olympic gold medals to her name at the age of 24 after racking up 230 points, finishing 24 better off than American silver medallist Sarah Hammer, with Jolien D’Hoore taking bronze for Belgium.

Jason Kenny capped another dynamic cycling performance with the gold medal in the keirin, his third in Rio de Janeiro and the sixth for his team.
He said the sportsman “is doing fantastically” in his career, adding: “If he does not become Sir Jason Kenny, then there is something wrong”. Dutch rider Matthijs Buchli took silver and Malaysia’s Azizulhasni Awang took bronze.
Cyclist Laura Trott has become the first British woman to win four Olympic gold medals with victory in the Omnium at the velodrome.
Of the three gold medals up for grabs at the Olympic Velodrome, British riders won two of them, and took silver and bronze in the other event.
“It’s possible to win more”, he said.
With the victory, the 24-year-old clinched her second successive team pursuit and omnium double after she also won both events at London in 2012.
Young Laura is clearly excited to wear Wiggins’ gold medal around her neck, but now she’s got four of her own. Trott had earlier in the evening retained her women’s omnium title, meaning that the couple now have a total of 10 Olympic gold medals between them.
The 29-year-old, who raised his fists in the air after crossing the finish, merely needing to complete Tuesday’s race to top the podium after an eighth and second on Sunday made him uncatchable in the double-point finale.
Scott’s triumph comes five years after he was heartbroken to lose out to long-term rival Ainslie as they vied to represent Britain in the London 2012 Olympics.
‘If by the time I get back from my honeymoon my place has gone on the squad, it might be time to do something else, ‘ he said. “I was in Beijing when he won his three so to come here and do the same is pretty fantastic”.
He said: “I love being at the Olympics, but when you’re finished all of a sudden the (athletes”) village seems quite confined.
