Tearful adieu for martyrs of Pampore encounter
Captain Pawan Kumar was 23 years old when he died. Injured on Friday, the captain was part of the Army’s Para special forces and was leading a smoke-out operation against the militants, reported Hindustan Times. According to family members Captain Tushar was fondly called as “Chotu”.

The nation paid tribute to the ultimate sacrifices of 9 Paramilitary Army Captain Tushar Mahajan and Lance Naik Commando Om Prakash of 9 Para Regiment, who were martyred during the ongoing encounter in Pampore in Jammu and Kashmir yesterday, as a wreath laying ceremony was held for the bravehearts in Srinagar on Monday.
The multi-storied building of Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI) building in Pampore caught fire this afternoon as the encounter between army and the heavily-armed terrorists, suspected to be 3-4 in number, continued till late tonight on the second day. The body of Captain Tushar Mahajan was flown from Srinagar to his hometown in Udhampur district of Jammu this morning. Meanwhile, last rites of Havaldar Raj Kumar Rana were performed by his daughter in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh.
The Army had appealed to the people of Haryana to extend support in giving a “befitting farewell” to the courageous son of the soil.
Rajbir Singh, father of Captain Pawan Kumar said, ‘I had one child.
“I had just one son and gave him to the country”.
A senior army commander said Pawan had participated in two recent operations in January and was wounded in the jaw in the second.
He was a very dedicated student and always dreamt of joining the Indian army today he has made all of us very proud by sacrificing his life in the line of duty, a close relative who was present in the house said. His mortal remains were airlifted in a helicopter to Jind in Haryana for the last rites.

The Army lost two officers and a jawan all from the Para Special Forces in active operations while the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) lost two constables when their bus was attacked. He succumbed to the injuries at 92 Base Hospital last evening.
