Djokovic had been trying to win his first Olympic title but was overpowered by the same rival who defeated him at the London 2012 games.

The latest news from Rio Olympics is coming out that Argentina’s Juan Martin del Potro dumped the world No 1 Novak Djokovic on Sunday. Suffice it to say, Djokovic should probably avoid any Olympics match in his future-assuming he has another one in him-if he knows del Potro is in his draw.

“It’s one of the toughest losses in my life and career”. “Not easy to handle”.

‘But, you know, you have to deal with it. Defending Olympic champions Bob and Mike Bryan have chosen to sit out the Olympic Games this time around, with many considering the Davis Cup winning Murray brothers combine strong contenders for gold.

He goes on to face Portugal’s Joao Sousa in the second round.

Delpo was the better player and he just deserved to win.

An Olympic gold medal is the only thing missing from Djokovic’s list of individual achievements, and he will have to wait at least four more years to put that right. That surprising result followed losses by the top-seeded duos of Serena and Venus Williams of the United States – who entered their match with a 15-0 Olympic record and three gold medals as a pair – in women’s doubles, and Nicolas Mahut and Pierre-Hugues Herbert of France in men’s doubles.

After warmly congratulating Del Potro at the net, he left the court in tears after failing to improve on the bronze medal he won at Beijing 2008.

“Amazing, fantastic match for me”. “It’s obviously very sad and disappointing on my side to go out in a tournament this early, but on the other hand, I’m glad a good friend of mine, and somebody who has struggled a lot the last couple years with injuries, is back and plays at this level”.
