Tebow arrives for workout at Mets camp

Fans crowd the fence to get an autograph and photo with Tim Tebow, Monday, Sept. 19, 2016 after he completed the day’s workout with the New York Mets Instructional League at Tradition Field in Port St. Lucie. He showed some rust, popping up a half-dozen pitches in that same BP session.

-Marlins right-hander Jose Fernandez, who has pitched 174 1/3 innings this season, will likely pitch just two more games this year – Tuesday against the Washington Nationals and Sunday against the Atlanta Braves.

“Your Name Here” may have as good a chance of making the majors as Tebow, who is attempting to start a baseball career at the age of 29 after having last played the sport as a junior in high school in 2005.

“Everything is going to be an adjustment for me”, Tebow said.

“The notion that we’re going to spend $100,000-plus on a player so we can sell a couple of hundred dollars worth of T-shirts in Kingsport [Tennessee, home of the Kingsport Mets] – those economics don’t work”, Alderson said.

“The goal would be to have a career in the big leagues”, Tebow said at his workout last month. You want to prove people right. The Patriots are without starting quarterback Tom Brady and backup Jimmy Garoppolo is sidelined by a shoulder injury.

“It was one of the hardest decisions of my life to choose football over baseball”, Tebow said.

Mets spokesman Harold Kaufman did say there is now no Tebow merchandise being sold at Citi Field, but of course that will probably change at the rate these Tebow jerseys sold out today in Florida.

But keep in mind that this is only the first day, literally the real first step, in what likely will be a long journey for Tebow, who says he’s determined to pursue this as far as he can. The instructional league spans three weeks. And then over the course of the last few years its something Ive thought about a bunch. It’s really bad when you’re trying to become a professional baseball player. “I believe hopefully with enough work and the right training, hopefully I can get it done”.
