Tebow signs minor-league contract with Mets
Beyond a weird desire to punish beat writers by making them go to the team’s fall instructional league, the only possible reason the Mets signed Tebow is because they really believe he can blossom into a cheap and easy source of home runs. After all, Tebow knows what he’s talking about as arguably the greatest college football player of all time. Heck, in that light, I hope he succeeds and makes the bigs some day. “So we’ll keep an open mind”. Currently, Tebow works as an on-air sports analyst for the SEC Network. Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said the decision to sign Tebow wasn’t based on his celebrity, it was “strictly driven by baseball”. “Perception is something different”. The 29-year-old has officially signed a baseball contract with the New York Mets, the team confirmed via Twitter.

“Are you insinuating that we need a Hail Mary at this point?”
Tebow, 29, worked out in Los Angeles and 46 scouts attended. “And there wasn’t a season that went by where (baseball) wasn’t something that I thought about”.
“This was not something that was driven by marketing considerations or anything of the sort”.
The Florida QB won the Heisman Trophy in 2007 and helped the Gators to two national championships. The Broncos made him a first-round draft pick in 2010, and he led Denver to a playoff win after his second pro season.
Tim Tebow, showing off his uh.athletic grace, during a showcase at USC last month. “He’s such a competitor that this is an outlet for him”. “I’m going to put in the work”.
Tebow hasn’t played organized baseball since his junior year in 2005 at Nease High School in Ponte Vedra, Florida, the Mets stated in a news release. A lot of people will say, ‘But what if you fail? His pursuit is clearly a long shot, but the Mets are intrigued enough to find out for themselves. If Tebow wants to attempt to climb the minor league ladder at age 29, that’s his decision: it’s a big, hard commitment if he pushes past the Instructional League level and actually plays in the Single-A, or whatever.
Brodie Van Wagenen, Tebow’s baseball agent at Creative Artists Agency, told reporters that several clubs stayed after the workout to meet face-to-face with Tebow.
“Part of it was because of this layoff”, Alderson said of the uneven performance.

Honestly, I think that Vitale is right: there’s no downside here for the Mets.
