Technical glitches ground hundreds of Southwest flights

Southwest Chief Communication Officer Linda Rutherford said I a tweeted video, “We know we’ve disappointed customers. and we’re really, really sorry about that”.
Southwest officials said more than 221 flights were canceled Thursday morning as they positioned aircraft and crew.
Air travelers endured extensive delays at Lindbergh Field for a second day Thursday as Southwest Airlines continued to recover from a massive computer glitch that temporarily halted all its flights.
Rutherford said the situation was unacceptable and asked for patience as Southwest staff work to re-accommodate customers to get them to their final destinations. Almost all of Southwest Airlines’ flights were grounded at RDU and across the country because of technology problems, which forced some travelers to spend the night at RDU or at a hotel.
One flight was canceled at Sea-Tac Airport on Thursday morning.
The airline said they were “offering flexible accommodations for those passengers needing to rebook their travel”.
An outage hit multiple technology systems and caused an hour-long, nationwide ground stop for all Southwest flights, CNN reported.
Scores of people stood in long lines at Nashville International Airport and had even longer wait times to check in. “I got an email this morning, probably 1 a.m., saying that our flight was canceled”. Officials said Thursday most systems are back online.
After a similar outage last October resulted in 800 delayed flights, Southwest blamed a faulty software application.
At 2:00pm Central time Southwest Airlines faced major problem with its computer systems.
For about three hours, Southwest customers could not log into their accounts, check in for flights or access the website.

Many Southwest Airlines passengers are still patiently waiting to get to their destination after almost 24 hours of delays and cancellations.
