“Our country is in crisis”.

Now, Politico is reporting that Ted Cruz is “expected” to finally endorse Donald Trump.

Cruz said he waited until now to voice his support because Trump released a “very strong list” of potential Supreme Court nominees, which gave Cruz confidence that Trump would appoint a justice “in the mold of (Antonin) Scalia”.

“After many months of careful consideration, of prayer and searching my own conscience, I have decided that on Election Day, I will vote for the Republican nominee, Donald Trump”. Hillary ClintonHillary Rodham ClintonClinton to visit Charlotte this Sunday Ana Navarro mocks Cruz backing Trump National poll: Clinton leads by 4 points MORE is manifestly unfit to be president, and her policies would harm millions of Americans.

“A year ago, I pledged to endorse the Republican nominee, and I am honoring that commitment”. Trump suggested that Cruz was not eligible to be president due to his Canadian birthplace and speculated that Cruz’s father was involved in the assassination of JFK.

Ted Cruz plans to indicate soon his intention to vote for Donald Trump in the November election, said a person familiar with Cruz’s deliberations who was not authorized to speak publicly about the decision.

Cruz’s move may also be politically expedient. At the Republican National Convention in Cleveland in July, Cruz was booed off the stage by Trump supporters after advising Republicans to “vote their conscience” and failing to offer support for the NY businessman.

Trump said he’s “greatly honoured” by what he describes as Cruz’s endorsement, though the senator did not describe it as an endorsement.

Experts say that unpredictability could a Trump’s strategy to try and throw Clinton off. Most refused to accept jobs with the Trump campaign when offered following Cruz’s departure from the primary campaign this spring. Which is a freakish thing for Trump to do unless he knows that Cruz is about to endorse him.

The decision to announce his intention to vote for Trump, rather than endorse him outright, was seen as a compromise – even if voters see little distinction between the two.
