Ted Cruz falls short of endorsing Donald Trump at GOP convention
The episode was tough to watch for Vanila Singh, a Woodside resident who had been a Cruz delegate before joining Trump’s slate.

He says he’ll be “watching and listening” but won’t “sit down, shut up, support the team”. Trump said. “I saw his speech two hours early but let him speak anyway”.
“We deserve leaders who stand for principle, who will unite us all behind shared values, who cast aside anger for love”. He’d hoped to convince Trump supporters to back Cruz when they realized that Trump wasn’t a serious candidate.
Tonight’s speech comes six days after Trump announced that Pence was his vice presidential pick via Twitter. Trump also criticized the appearance of Cruz’s wife, Heidi. “But I think we’re at a place in our country’s evolution where it’s particularly important now, with all that’s happened and the concerns that people have, for a positive vision to be laid out”.
Cruz’s convention speech was met with loud boos inside the Quicken Loans Arena in downtown Cleveland.
He took the stage to a thunderous, prolonged ovation. While he backed some of Trump’s policy proposals, including building a wall along the US-Mexico border, he mentioned the GOP nominee by name only once.
Eric Trump is the third of Trump’s children to address the convention.
But by the end, delegates were booing him, booing the Texas delegation, and shouting out for Trump.
But even those who said they otherwise liked Cruz, and the general message of the speech, felt a sense of betrayal with his refusal to offer an explicit endorsement.
Ted Cruz took the stage at the Republican National Convention and he very noticeably avoided endorsing Donald Trump.
McIver said Melania had “always liked Michelle Obama” and “over the phone, she read some passages from Michelle’s speech as examples” of what she wanted to tell the convention.
Cruz’s move might have unintentionally unified the party in way Trump hasn’t managed to do yet, according to former Bush White House communications director and current NBC commentator Nicolle Wallace.
Cuccinelli said: “During the course of the speech, more and more people were coming down closer and closer to Heidi and (Ted Cruz’s father) Rafael”.
At the beginning of his 15-minute speech, Cruz was met with resounding applause from delegates. He joked that the NY delegation was enthusiastic, but continued on as the yelling and booing kept up.
The crowd’s boos quickly switched to cheers as Trump entered the arena at the moment Cruz finished.
When delegates from NY loudly urged Cruz from the convention floor to “say it” – referring to endorsing Trump – the Texas senator only responded: “I appreciate the enthusiasm of the NY delegation”.
“I appreciate the enthusiasm of the NY delegation”, Cruz ad libbed when delegates from Trump’s home state began shouting for an endorsement.

“As this election approaches, every American should know that while we’re filling the presidency for four years, this election will fill the Supreme Court for the next 40”, he said. Ted Cruz said you can vote your conscience for anyone who will uphold the Constitution.
