In the early primary season, Donald Trump made an issue of Cruz’s eligibility, suggesting legal challenges might keep Cruz’s name from appearing on the presidential ballot in November. Cruz was born in Canada, and Wager contends that fails the natural born test. Cruz has said that a child of a USA citizen is automatically granted citizenship at birth and is therefore “natural born”. But Williams said he was Trump’s opponent in states where he is running as a write-in candidate, including New Jersey.Republican presidential candidate, Sen.But Masin interjected, arguing that Williams was applying his own interpretation of the phrase “natural born”.

Masin had said Monday that he expected Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno, New Jersey’s secretary of state, to review his decision. On Monday, three residents and a Catholic University of America law professor argued Cruz isn’t eligible to run for president according to the Constitution. His father was born in Cuba.

Williams charged Cruz’s Canadian birth certificate on public record “incontrovertibly proves, that he was, and is, a natural-born Canadian”. Several voter challenges to Cruz’s eligibility have been dismissed for lack of standing. Because he has filed as a competing candidate, Williams believes that he has “competitor standing” to challenge Cruz’s eligibility and, if his claim is rejected by state officials, to file suit in court.

Masin says he expects to rule Tuesday on procedural questions and the underlying issue of whether Cruz satisfies the constitutional requirement that the president be a natural-born citizen.
