Trump’s latest volleys are part of a two-week-long skirmish between the two leading Republican presidential contenders, which featured the two attacking each other face-to-face at Thursday’s debate.
Asked by reporters whether he wanted to apologize for saying this week that Donald Trump, his main 2016 rival, “embodies NY values”, Cruz turned the tables, laying out a three-minute riff on things for which he would rather apologize.
Mr Trump said the comments were “very insulting” and brought up the city’s response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
King also criticized Cruz for opposing funding for relief after Superstorm Sandy and then pushing for relief from floods in Texas.
“I think Ted Cruz has actually created a lot of anger, not only here, but a lot of people around this country are going to see this as divisive, negative and I think he owes the people of NY an apology”, De Blasio told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer.
The New York Daily News’ cover Friday had a succinct reply to Sen.
Cruz drew fire when he said that Republican frontrunner embodied “New York values” during an interview with Howie Carr this week.
During one of several dust-ups with fellow GOP candidate (and native New Yorker) Donald Trump, Cruz launched into a speech slamming the values held by those in NY. Trump told Cruz, drawing a scattering of boos in the audience.
Cuomo said Cruz should apologize to New Yorkers.
“And we rebuilt downtown Manhattan, and everybody in the world watched and everybody in the world loved NY and loved New Yorkers”. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) in a series of tweets on Saturday.
“The facts and the law here are really quite clear”, Cruz said, before suggesting that by Trump’s own logic, the billionaire himself would be disqualified because his mother was a native of Scotland. Cruz and Trump did volley back and forth on whether Cruz is eligible to be elected president and on Muslim immigration.

De Blasio was quick to say amen: “I agree with Gov. Cuomo’s remarks”, he said, adding that anyone who is pro-life “does not represent the views of the people of NY”. The debate came just two weeks before the first real test of the campaign, when voters in Iowa pick their Republican and Democratic choices for president.
