Ted Cruz likely to campaign in Nebraska

In a statement after the primary, Trump’s campaign sought to downplay the defeat, arguing he has “withstood the onslaught of the establishment yet again”.

US Senator Ted Cruz of Texas is getting a taste of the “New York values” he derided in Iowa as Republicans turn to the next big US presidential contest in the home state of frontrunner Donald Trump. A look at what’s known – and, more importantly, unknown – about how a contested convention might work. It will first be asked to consider a rule disqualifying any candidate who has not won a majority of delegates in at least eight states during the primary and caucus marathon.

Trump has said he wants to remain neutral to help with a negotiation between the two parties, but he recently announced that he’d back recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital city, a wish of many pro-Israel Americans.

For the Democrats, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders beat former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in Wisconsin. And while the focus of the Republican presidential campaign shifts eastward to New York, Cruz is pivoting west, where he is quietly trying to chip away at Donald Trump’s lead in the race for convention delegates.

Bettors weren’t the only ones reacting to a Trump candidacy.

Cruz garnered more support in Los Angeles County and the Central Valley/Sierra region. The largest prize in that group will be Pennsylvania, where Kasich has hoped to do well, but also where Trump and Clinton lead their respective races, according to a new Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday. But Mr Sanders still lags behind Mrs Clinton in the all-important delegate count.

In the Republican primary, Sen. They mostly can vote for candidates of their choice on subsequent ballots until a nominee is picked.

Turnout in Tuesday’s election was the highest of any Wisconsin presidential primary since 1972, based on unofficial returns. While both candidates are competing to win delegates through the primaries, they are also working behind the scenes to line up loyal delegates to represent them at the convention. With Cruz rising in national polls, anti-Trump conservatives are hopeful that Trump’s collection of delegates will slow, making a contested convention in July likelier. “I don’t think either one of them will have enough delegates before the convention so June 7 will matter a lot”.
