Ted Cruz poised to win Wyoming Republican presidential primary contest

But there was worry from some – even those opposed to Trump – that party machinations would try to steer the nomination away from Trump or Sen.

In many states, that lack of organization and rank-and-file support could come back to haunt Trump in the event of a contested, multiballot convention in Cleveland.

“(Trump) doesn’t understand the process”, she said.

“Lyin’ Ted Cruz can’t get votes (I am millions ahead of him) so he has to get his delegates from the Republican bosses”.

“He is trying to pit voters against the very people who make the decision of whether he gets the nomination”, said Matt Borges, chairman of the Republican Party in Ohio.

Party members elected as delegates Evan Power, chairman of the Leon County Republican Party, Clint Pate, chairman of the Jackson County Republican Party, and Thelma Rohan, a state committeewoman from Bay County.

Those calls have been muted recently though, as the GOP seemed to accept that Kasich was in it for the duration, regardless of his mathematical elimination from the race for the 1,237 delegates needed for a first-ballot majority. But the Trump campaign didn’t have a lot of choice. So for the first vote, two delegates have to vote for Trump, while the third delegate may vote for Ted Cruz.

“This is a banana republic approach from the Trump team”, he said.

“The people of the 3rd District voted (for Trump)”. The rules governing the nominating process, however, have been clear at least since last October, when each state’s procedures for picking delegates were finalized and revealed to all the candidates.

But Baker, a dermatologist who got involved in the GOPt here because of Trump, said his campaign also has not actively courted him or talked about what might happen beyond the first ballot. Trump had originally planned to send former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, who remains popular among conservatives, as a surrogate, but she cancelled at the last minute.

“It’s just great to have the support of the Wyoming voters”, Buchanan said after the delegate selection was announced.

“These are the moms and dads of heartland America, playing by the rules”, she said.

Support went to party veterans who have spent years volunteering for various candidates.

“Unbind the delegates and hold a straw poll so that we can bind the results to the will of the people of Colorado”, a protester said.

The rules are complicated, Romney conceded, but they are also transparent for campaigns that bother to study them, which Trump’s evidently did not.

He then said that he doesn’t care if Romney attends, and said Romney made a mistake four years ago because his campaign refused to air a clip during the convention that showed Trump sitting across from a President Obama look-alike.
