Teddy Bridgewater’s stunning injury: He’s out for the season

According to several reports, Bridgewater was seen grabbing his left knee. But when Zimmer was asked if he had any hope of Bridgewater being able to return sometime this season, the coach replied, “I don’t know. However we have to do it, if it’s running the ball 65 times or throwing it 65 times, it doesn’t really matter”.

Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer told ESPN that his message to Bridgewater was to “hang in there” and that the team is “with him”.

While Teddy Bridgewater is weighing options for surgery, the Minnesota Vikings are scrutinizing the possibilities for another quarterback.

Bridgewater issued his first statement since Tuesday’s injury.

For now, Hill, a 15-year veteran, will take over at quarterback for the Vikings, who close the preseason Thursday against Los Angeles at U.S. Bank Stadium and open the regular season September 11 at Tennessee. As reporters pressed him for details, Zimmer said, “Let’s let him get taken care of please”.

“One thing that we will not do, and I promise you this, is put our organization in a situation where it”™s going to inhibit us or hurt us going into the future. He crumpled to the turf and grabbed his left knee while concerned teammates and athletic trainers hurried to his side.

Minnesota Vikings tight end MyCole Pruitt (83) catches a pass and St. Louis Rams linebacker Akeem Ayers (56) tackles him in the third quarter at TCF Bank Stadium. Moments later, a siren-blaring ambulance pulled into the team’s Winter Park headquarters, stayed for about 10 minutes and then pulled away. “I was like, ‘Wow, this kid’s going to be very special'”. “Our fans love the kid”. “We’re going to go out and fight like we always do”. The most recent notable quarterback to tear his ACL is Robert Griffin III who recovered from the injury well, but has never looked the same on the field since.

The Vikings have 36-year-old veteran Shaun Hill as Bridgewater’s primary backup. Stave was signed as an undrafted free agent. He earned his first Pro Bowl nod last season when he passed for 3,231 yards with 14 touchdowns and helped lead the Vikings to an 11-5 record that earned them a playoff berth.

“If he were to come in and be sad and upset, it would make everybody else feel sad, but that’s not who he is”, Boone said. “I think he’s played great this preseason”.

Bridgewater is 23 years old and looked to be settling into the National Football League just as many expected him to and the Vikings were looking to take a shot deep into the playoffs. The quarterback and his advisers will pick a surgeon in the next day or two.

“This isn’t a one-man deal”, Zimmer said. But this is about the team. “We have a real good team”.
