While the short term thoughts are with Bridgewater, probably still in shock from what happened, focused on finding someone for this season, Mike Zimmer and the people running the franchise have to be thinking about guys in college right now.

In case you have been living underground for the past 24-hours, Bridgewater suffered a non-contact injury during practice Tuesday and it was later diagnosed as a dislocated knee and a torn ACL. He will undergo surgery in the next few days.

With Bridgewater heading to injured reserve, the Vikings re-signed quarterback Brad Sorensen, whom they had added to the roster after Bridgewater was held out of the team’s second preseason game in Seattle on August 18 with a sore shoulder.

The Vikings will play their final preseason game against the Los Angeles Rams Thursday night at U.S. Bank Stadium.

The severity of Bridgewater’s injury could sideline him well into 2017, leaving backup Shaun Hill as the Vikings’ presumptive starter.

While Teddy Bridgewater is weighing options for surgery, the Minnesota Vikings are scrutinizing the possibilities for another quarterback.

Given the timing and the severity of the injury, Bridgewater could have trouble returning to full strength for the 2017 season.

Perhaps one of the scariest things about this situation is that this injury wasn’t suffered from some overzealous rookie trying to make the team and hitting the quarterback in a vulnerable area.

“I told you there was nothing to worry about; sometimes you’ve just got to trust me”, Zimmer said.

Bridgewater was injured when he dropped back to pass during a drill and planted his foot.

“I have confidence in Shaun”, Zimmer said. We looked at him and we were like, ‘Man, ya’ll see how he was in a good spirit?

“He’s a young (player)”, Spielman said. “I’ve talked to his mom a couple times, just trying to update her about what’s going on”.

“Teddy’s such a great kid”, Zimmer said. “Everybody loves him, so they were disappointed and I didn’t think we were going to get much out of practice today, so we’ll get back in here tomorrow and we’ll get back to work”.
