“It certainly is shocking”.

“I just don’t know how if he’s even comprehending what has happened or if he is really, is so removed that he cant feel remorse. You hate to see it anywhere”, Alexander said. Other officers erected black tarps and blue tarps to veil two bodies in the front yard as the sun rose Thursday. A gust of wind blew down one section of the makeshift wall, revealing a bloody white sheet.

“I was told knives, there was a hatchet, there was several different types of weapons that were actually used in the homicides”, said Calhoun.

What looks like such a normal Broken Arrow home is the location of the most gruesome crime the city has seen.

Police said someone in the house dialed 911 around 11:30 Wednesday night but didn’t say a word to dispatchers; and when police got to the house all they heard was moaning.

A 13-year-old girl was injured in the attack and taken to the hospital where she underwent surgery and is now in stable condition.

Meanwhile a California man arrested on suspicion of murdering five people found dead in a house over the weekend, including one of his children, was charged separately on Thursday in the killing last year of a toddler, prosecutors said.

A tracking dog led officers to the brothers in woods near the house. “I don’t think we’ve had a single incident of this magnitude”, said Broken Arrow Police Cpl. The adult victims were identified as April, 44, and David Bever, 52. The other suspect, a 16-year-old son, was not identified because he is a juvenile.

The three children found dead were boys ages 12 and 7, and a girl age 5, Calhoun said. The two survivors were a 13-year-old girl, who was injured, and the 2-year-old girl. None of those names was released.

Neighbours said they knew the nine – in part because they stood in contrast with others in a close-knit neighbourhood.

Bill Whitworth, 46, who drives a bread truck, said his 18-year-old son was the same age as one of the teenagers detained.

A neighbor told the Associated Press that the family homeschooled their children and kept them on a tight leash. The family had helped with neighborhood Christmas decorations, but stopped after two years.

“We just have a great neighborhood. That’s just insane; it’s absolutely mad”, Hoagland said as she watched police working at the crime scene before dawn.

Statham, 74, said she would see the children cutting grass or playing outside and would have never expected trouble.

“Usually the worst thing we have here is kids with baseball bats destroying mailboxes”, said Statham, a retiree who has lived in the neighborhood for 38 years.

Police responded to the Bever home in the 700 block of Magnolia Court after receiving a 911 call where the line was open but no one spoke. Police traced the number to the home and found a scene so disturbing that officers warned that it could take all of Thursday to process evidence.
