Teen in mass Canada school shooting makes court appearance

Archbishop Murray Chatlain says after the shootings in the community that left four people dead and seven others wounded he wanted to remind its residents the village is made up of “tremendously generous people”. La Loche is a town of 3,000 where everybody seems to know each other. When police arrived, they chased the shooter through the school, arresting him at gunpoint, said Grant St. Germaine, Superintendent of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. The newspaper, citing three sources, said the gunman dared people inside the school on Friday to tease him about his ears, and spared students who had been kind to him. Levy said four people were killed, but declined to give their ages or sex.

“He just said he was going to do something”.

“I grew up not a good guy, but she turned me right”, Park said.

“There are many tremendously generous people here, so… the story is much more than this in La Loche”. “She was a fantastic person”.

“I’m just so sad”. As parents, we send our kids off to school, we part for the workday, and we expect all to come home, together again, safe and loved.

“Adam was quite an adventurer, had a passion for life, and would often make you laugh until your stomach hurt”, said a statement released by his family in Ontario.

Janvier was known for her patience and kindness with students and was reportedly hoping to pursue a career in teaching following her time at La Loche.

“We at the Northern Lights School Division extend our deepest sympathies to the families of the victims and to the entire community of La Loche”. I worry about them a great deal. “And then I was hearing those shots, too, so of course I started running”.

A teacher and an aide were shot and killed shortly after at the high school.

Both the high school and the nearby elementary building are closed indefinitely.

Words can not express my shock and sorrow at the horrific events today in La Loche.

On Sunday, Premier Brad Wall, federal Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale, Assembly of First Nations National Chief Perry Bellegarde, Metis National Council President Clem Chartier and others met with local leaders for 90 minutes.

Mass shootings are rare, however, even in Canada’s most desperate corners.

LeBlanc pledged the governing Liberals will respond to Friday’s shootings with actions to protect citizens and, more broadly, to improve the lives of Indigenous people. While all firearms must be registered in Canada, the process is easier for Aboriginals who use shotguns for traditional hunting and youth under 12 can obtain access. “The conversation would just stop and something else would happen, the subject would (change.) No one ever thought this was going to happen”.
